Web Conferencing using Zoom, Skype & Jitsi etc.

Web Conferencing

With the prospect of the Covid-19 situation continuing for a few weeks, we all need to keep in contact and try to have regular “Virtual Meetings”.

Some groups have started to use Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp and other free services for small meetings.

We now have two U3A Dacorum Zoom Accounts set up. (Zoom 1 & Zoom 2)

We have also put together a “Beginners Guide to Zoom” in an attempt to make it easier for U3A Coordinators & Members to have regular  “Scheduled” Zoom meetings.
The “Beginners Guide to Zoom” is divided into different sections:-
Using Zoom on a Desktop or Laptop,
Using Zoom on a Tablet or SmartPhone,
Using Screen Sharing,
Joining a Zoom Call for the First Time
Click this link to see the User Guide Zoom Users Guide

It is intended to assist all U3A coordinators to setup a Zoom video conference, or U3A Dacorum members to Join a Zoom meeting when invited by a Coordinator.

Coronovirus Advice

A message from The Third Age Trust

Following the confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, the Government and NHS have issued advice for members of the public. The Third Age Trust wants to share this advice with you.

Typical symptoms of coronavirus include fever and a cough that may progress to a severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

The UK Chief Medical Officers are advising anyone who has travelled to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau in the last 14 days and is experiencing cough or fever or shortness of breath, to stay indoors and call NHS 111, even if symptoms are mild.

More information about the virus, as well as symptoms and advice, is available to view at https://www . gov . uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public

Or on the NHS England website at: https://www . england . nhs . uk/2020/02/statement-from-nhs-england-and-nhs-improvement-on-coronavirus/

Dinghy Sailing – 2020 Programme

Dinghy Sailing

The Chilterns and South Herts U3A Dinghy Sailing group normally meet on the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of the month (1pm – 5pm) from April until the end of October, at Troy Lake, West Hyde (between Maple Cross and Denham). See Map.
Members from several different U3A groups come together to sail and socialise under the aegis of Rickmansworth Sailing Club, who allow us to sail in their club boats which include Wayfarers, Lasers, Picos, a Comet Versa, a Solo and an Enterprise.
The cost to accredited U3A members is £8.50 per sailing session, which covers insurance, upkeep of the dinghies and fuel for the safety boat. We provide personal flotation devices, so all you need is warm clothing and a sense of adventure!
No previous experience is necessary, but we do ask that you can swim at least 10 metres. We organise Capsize Drill at least once each season. New members are welcome, and tuition will be given where necessary, so any ability is catered for.

There will be a ‘Meet the Members’ session from 2-4pm on Tuesday 7 April, and the first sailing session of the year will take place on Wednesday 22 April.
If you would like to know more about our group, please contact either Wendy Barnes on 01494 783790 or Judith Young on 01494 580912 or by email: sailing@cvu3a.uk (Chess Valley U3A)
