Welcome to our new Dacorum U3A web site, It is designed to be clear, with lots of white space, so that you can concentrate on the content.

The new Dacorum U3A website has been designed and built using WordPress, by a small workgroup of Mike Sapsard, Terry Thirlwell & Pauline Hughes with assistance from the Computer Programming Group.

The website is responsive to different devices and device sizes and should work reasonably on everything from a PC to a small phone or Kindle. Where there is little space to spare, big pictures can become small and very small pictures can become unreadable. To minimise that effect, the screen layout changes to match the screen dimensions. See what happens to the picture above when you rotate or use another device and let us have your feedback. If you use a voice reader, the Groups page is voice reader friendly. However, the Calendar page contains buttons that are not, and we hope to find a solution.

If you send an email, using one of the built-in forms, you will be required to answer a simple question that may require some local knowledge. This is to defeat spam bots that try to collect email addresses and then flood them with junk. We have also installed Spam Assassin software, which inspects all incoming emails and helps to block spam and malicious messages.

How to navigate the web site

You can use the Menu Bar to navigate to another area such as What’s On? and then select from the drop down menu. The Sidebar listing to the right, or bottom of this page, depending on your device, may whet your curiosity. It displays Today’s Events , Posts, and Search window.

To see where we hold events, click on Venues, and to see the range of activities, or look for a particular subject, use the  Group Search, where you can search for any  Group or activity e.g. ‘History’ or ‘Exploring’ OR use the Categories.

The Sidebar Posts displays a scrolling window of the most recent Group News emails posted to members, just click on one to view details.

To submit information to be added to a Groups Web Page, use the form on the Contact Us page.

We have now added a Web Page for every Group, which can be accessed via the What’s On? > Groups then select the Group name and click the Group Web page link. The Group’s Web page  can be updated with information from the Group Leader. Each Group Leader has an Email client behind the scenes, from which we forward their group emails to them.

The website will continue to develop, and we will consider feature requests from Group Leaders.
