If you have a burning desire to master computers, you may need to buy a fire extinguisher! On the other hand, you could consider a less expensive option and join us.
Meeting on Zoom, we look at a wide variety of programming subjects, in a peripatetic fashion. So far we have played with Pascal and written a simple ‘Shoot-em up’, looked with trepidation at databases, tried LibreOffice Basic to provide extra control to spreadsheets, and have just finished looking at websites and WordPress. Our next venture will be to look at how to write a simple application on a PC and run it on an Android device.
You can use any PC and whatever OS you like. We try to be OS agnostic by using Free Software aka Open Source programming environments and tools.
If you have never written any code and want to learn, come along and tell us what you want to do. If you are already developing some code and want to show it to us, or have a problem, bring it along. We may be able to help. Should you be looking for advice on creating a website or using WordPress then look at this document.
We are all beginners at some things and, if you have never looked ‘under the hood‘ before, you may struggle a little at first. Please don’t be put off by the thought of hard work, because the rewards are a depth of understanding that most of us never attain. It is also fun! If you think you are too stupid to program, just come and see us. We’ll change your mind.
We meet on alternate Tuesdays between 10:00 and 12:00 am. Email the coordinator for the link.
